Knitting and crochet pattern writing takes time and patience but is one of the most joyful journeys, at least for me. Writing patterns is on the top of my favorite jobs on my to do list at CrochetObjet knitting.

Over the last few weeks or even months I have been struggling mainly with trying to manage my creative ideas and make some reasonable order inside my head. It’s mainly to deal with managing the time needed to bring them all to life. Luckily I have this little blog spot where I can share and maybe even inspire you with this creative process.

It’s been a while now that I have been feeling very inspired and have SO many new design ideas. And I need to find a way to organize and prioritize them all. I often feel that writing this blog is like bullet journaling. It helps me to get more organized and maybe more in control?

In many cases when I get into my creative zone and get some stitches flying off my hook, my hands dance and I get so excited I just can’t stop myself from sharing. So, it’s very often that you get to see the design process on social media when it’s only a fresh start of something. Like this crochet bag pattern (Santorini bag. Tentative name) that is waiting patiently to be written down.Knitting and crochet pattern writing

These social media photos will be followed by your lovely reactions and questions regarding when this pattern will be published. And so I find myself struggling between my natural creativity flow of developing new designs and actually making them into a written pattern. Which can take weeks.

pattern writing

Pattern writing takes time and patience and it’s a long process until it’s ready to be published. I take notes on each and every step I make from the very first step of the making. My ‘Notes App’ is full of written patterns including all the deleted and redone steps that I made along the way during the design process. In most cases in a notebook too because I’m a pen and paper kind of gal.

•••

In order to write down a proper pattern I will usually make a sample after I finish the actual crochet or knitting object following these notes. Next I’ll write it down on my pattern writing software. And then the last step I’ll crochet /  knit it again to recheck the written instructions and also to take photos for those specific steps where I know it’ll help you.

If you ever tried any of my patterns you already know that I like to include close up pictures. I do that to help you along with the making and to make you feel like I teach you in person. Which means I need to actually crochet or knit this step and then wait for daylight hours to take photos.Knitting and crochet pattern writing As you can imagine, this ‘design to a written pattern’ process can take weeks. And it’s been added to my Etsy shop only after it comes back from test knitters / crocheters.

Usually pattern writing takes place on the days that I don’t teach. But sometimes I can find myself diving into it after the class hours. After feeding and hugging the kidos that are back from school. I find myself knitting-writing- taking photos for hours without even noticing. Till the late evening when my energy levels drop.

In the last week I was busy writing two of my new patterns. One of them is my first ever sock pattern. YAY!!! Can’t tell you how excited I am. Knitting and crochet pattern writingMy Cosy Weekend Socks have lived in my head for ages and here we are, just a few more steps before this becomes an actual pattern that you guys can make too. As I shared on my previous post, I use a gorgeous DK wool from The Wool Barn. Each sock weighs approx. 75 gr’. And I knitted them on a 3.5 mm hook using the magic loop method. But you can use any method you like following my pattern. I hope it will go along with a video tutorial. We shall see. Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel and watching my videos. I appreciate it so very much.

The other one is this new crochet scarf. Made out of 165 crochet flowers. YES! Spring is comingKnitting and crochet pattern writingI designed it using mYak fibers, mainly their beautiful Baby Yak / Organic cotton blend. Can’t wait to share it with you. It’s been in the making for quite a while here and it was such a joyful project to crochet. This picture of the final blocking was taken two days ago and it still lays on my studio table until it will be totally dry. I’ve been writing a step by step crochet pattern and next is adding a few photos.

This pattern will be first offered by mYak along with a kit and with two zoom workshops. But after that it will be also available in my Etsy shop. So, besides the pattern I will also have to work on the workshop’s structure. We had a huge success on our previous workshops so we plan to offer more in the future.

There’s a lot of work around Knitting and crochet pattern writing which I enjoy SO much but can be a little bit tricky to handle. There are so many notes and to do lists on my table, which I hope to be able to juggle somehow. Knitting and crochet pattern writingIf we manage to get to the beach for a barefoot beach walk it helps a lot. We are so thankful it’s just a short drive from us to the beach. Less than 20 minutes on weekends. We rarely get to the beach on weekdays because the roads are crazy busy. But if we manage to get there on the weekend it’s like magic. I get so energised and focused after that. It helps me to get ready for the week ahead. Mentally and physically.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/cart/view.html?ref_=nav_cartOn days when I’m not teaching I usually drive to the park, very close to our home for a morning walk. Yesterday morning, after my usual tidy up and before writing this blog I went to the park for a refreshing morning walk and run. So many exciting things are coming ahead and I had to organise my thoughts before writing my weekly blog. It was so SO good. We have had the most perfect weather here in Israel over the last few days. It was sunny but gently sunny. I wish I could send some of it your way. Especially the sun rays that shine through the tops of the eucalyptus trees. xxMo
