A new CrochetObjet blanket is coming soon and it hasn’t got a name yet. So, I need you with that! The idea of this monochrome beginners friendly crochet blanket has been living in my head for about two years! I think from the early days of the pandemic? It’s not the only pattern that I was dreaming of adding to my Etsy shop but it’s the one that finally came out to see the light! And that’s thanks to the help of loving hands from the CrochetObjet club.

Having so many new ideas is something I’m very grateful for but at the same time can be very frustrating. Because I only have one pair of hands and crochet / knitting needs time. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy each and every stitch but I find myself having a hard time to choose what to work on.
It was many moons ago that I showed a sample of what I had made for this new crochet baby blanket to Monday’s girls. I remember mentioning how easy this project was and how I wished I had a few more hands. My idea was to create a monochrome minimalist blanket. I really wanted to add something like this to my collection to pop up next to my colourful desighns. I always have this need to create something colorful next to something really monochrome.

The week after, Elisheva, a lovely and talented Monday participant, asked if I wanted her to help me with the blanket. OF COURSE I WANTED. I was over the moon about her suggestion. She brilliantly came out with this idea. Sometimes things are so close and obvious that it’s hard for you to see them clearly.

Next we took a note book and wrote down the crochet instructions as made in the sample. Before she went home, I made her a little project bag with all the Granny Kit cotton balls so she had everything she needed to start working. 7 balls of colour Black Jet for the crochet circles and 7 balls of Shale Gray Colour for the background.
The week after Elisheva came with only one circle made so we could check gauge and tension. We both wanted it to be perfectly made and was taking it easy, step by step. I really wanted her to enjoy the making with no rush ‘sitting in her head’. I told her there’s no time table for this pattern and it’ll be out when it’s ready. No matter when it’ll be ready – it will be the right time anyway.

Every Monday Elisheva bought her project bag to share the progress and we discussed little details in the making. Together with all Monday girls we decided on the final blanket size and on a few more details.
We tried a few joining options and a few border styles but eventually decided to go on a clean minimalistic one.

Last Monday Elisheva came with a perfectly made blanket. A finished and even blocked new crochet baby blanket!!! I can’t tell you how happy I was. I was over the moon! One of these ideas I had in my head for so long actually came to life. I am so SO grateful. Not just for getting help with the actual crocheting of my idea but also for her being so committed to each and every detail in the progress. The quality, the calculations, the number of chain stitches in the joining and in the corners of each granny square. She made notes with all the calculations for the yarn pack. Every time I design a new pattern which will also make a yarn pack, I have to take into consideration shipping costs and she was totally committed to all those essential details.

The result is a beautifully made crochet baby blanket which is ready to be written. BUT it still needs a name.
A new CrochetObjet baby needs a name
A few days ago I posted a story on my IG account asking for help with names for the new CrochetObjet baby blanket. A few of my followers kindly sent some beautiful options such as: Moon Glow, Full Moon, Dotty blanket, To the Moon and Moon Walk. What do you think? Would you please be kind enough to help me with this? It needs to be something easy to remember, not too heavy and not too trendy. I guess the moon is the first association that jumps out from these monochrome circles. I know that I only had a simple idea for a basic beginners friendly crochet project in mind and I find it so difficult to choose a name for it. It’s always the hardest part btw but this time even harder.

In the last few days I was happy busy writing down a step-by-step pattern for you. This is a very simple and back to basics ‘kinda’ project. A project to keep you busy with not much brain space needed. It’s a beginners friendly crochet project that will provide just the right amount for both calming and interesting making. So a new CrochetObjet blanket pattern is coming soon, together with yarn packs. I really hope it will not take too long but I still have some work to do with the written pattern. I decided to go with lighter colours for the written instructions. It’ll make it easier for you to see details on the pictures within the pattern. The circle and square instructions are written and next is the joining and framing instructions. We might add a little final detail on the framing, we shall see. Anyways a new CrochetObjet blanket is coming soon and it made so even if you are a beginner you will be able to make it.

It’s funny but for me the first impression that your blanket reminds me is a *domino”, you know to play a game and that’s the name I would call this blanket, baby-s domino.

“Over the Moon” should be the name for your new blanket, dear friend. To begin, you said that it was “many moons” ago that you showed your sample. You said you were “over the moon” with Elisheva’s offer to help make this blanket and once it was finished, you said you were so happy . . . “over the moon” about it. Also, since this is a baby blanket, I always tell my children that I love them “to the moon and back” . . . . we parents love our children “to the moon and back”. Just seems that “Over the Moon” is so fitting with everything, even the design which you said was the one to finally “come out and see the light” and light is what the full moon gives.
Whatever you decide for the name, Mo, it’s a beautiful blanket and one that I will be sure to add to my CrochetObjet collection. Love you to the moon and back, dear friend! XO

I love this blanket and can’t wait until we can purchase. I have no name suggestions and really like many that have been mentioned. Personally for me, I will be making a larger blanket for my older grandsons (really young men) as I think this would also make a nice masculine blanket in the colors you have shown. Mo, I love the new blanket, congratulations. I would love to make it and am thinking I would like to make the circles in black and maybe 2 or 3 shades of grey, rather like a gradient from light to dark. Which greys would you suggest? Ones that have enough contrast from light to dark to black? But will still pop against the shale grey background?
Also, if I decide to order the kit will I be able to change out some of the black for the greys?

What a lovely idea Paula. I think I would suggest working with the following Grays from dark to light shade: Loft, Jasper & Platinum. They will all pop against the Shale Gray background. I’m not sure about quantities that you will need from each but we can calculate it when relevant. Yes you can always contact me via Etsy conversation to check stock levels and following that we can change/ replace colors within the pack. If you eventually bring this idea to life and send me pictures of your final blanket I might add this color way ro my Etsy shop later. Thank you for your question.

this blanket is genius for newborns! In the first months of babys life thay can see only contrast of black and white therefore I would name it: “Baby Vision Blanket”.
