I have recently updated my Crochet Starfish Square pattern and uploaded a video to help you with the making, from start to end. The renewed pattern is now available for 20% off on my Etsy shop, for the entire weekend. This granny square was part of a Starfish bedspread I made for our youngest, some years ago, when he was ready to move to his toddlers bed. The boy is downstairs playing football with his friends, while I’m writing this blog.

And now let’s get right into the today’s crochet updates.Crochet Starfish Square Pattern and Video

Crochet Starfish Square Pattern

This is an updated version of the StarFish square. I designed it back in 2015 when I wanted to make a Starfish bedspread for our youngest boy. The original blanket was made with my sport weight 4 ply Granny Kit Cotton yarn. With 12 different colors (Blues, Greens and browns) framed with a White background. Since then many of my local students and worldwide customers crocheted it using so many different beautiful yarns and color combinations. The renewed pattern is for the Square only including the last two framing rounds.

There are many beautiful star granny squares patterns out there but this is my version for a star granny square and it comes with a video tutorial.

As with all my patterns, it is a step by step pattern written in US crochet terms. You should be familiar with crochet stitches. This time I created a full video tutorial to help you along with the making.Crochet Starfish Square Pattern and Video

Square size

The StarFish square is about 4.2″ x 4.2″ (10.7cm x 10.7 cm) – measured at the end of rnd 6.

Yarn

This 6 rounds square is made out of 4 different colors. For the video I used my Granny Kit cotton yarn in col: Coral, Copper, Lime Green & ShaleGrey. In the pattern you’ll find the length of yarn that you will need for each round, so you can get prepared before you start your Starfish project.  Crochet Starfish Square Pattern and Video

Suggested hook size

I used a 3 mm crochet hook. Use any hook size to obtain gauge. I strongly recommend that you start with making a square sample to check your gauge.

Gauge

20 sts & 12 rows = 4 x 4″ (10 x 10 cm) measured on a Double Crochet after blocking.

Crochet Starfish Square Pattern and Video

In this video I show how to crochet the Starfish square, start to end including all the special stitches involved in this pattern. I use US crochet terms. We will start by making the star and we will finish by making two framing rounds as in my original blanket. In the end of this video I show how to weave in the yarn ends so make sure you don’t miss it.

I strongly recommend that you stop and rewatch the parts of the video where you think you need it. This is exactly what I did when I wanted to learn new stitches at the beginning of my CrochetObjet journey. Let me know in the comments if you found it helpful and if you think you gonna try making your Starfish square. If you like this video please don’t forget to give it the thumbs up and if you haven’t already please subscribe to my channel. Thank you for supporting my making journey.

It was actually one of the first patterns I have ever written. First in Hebrew, for my local students, following with the English pattern for my worldwide Etsy customers.
