Hello Y’all, hope you are all doing well. Today I’m here to share some details about the new crochet pattern that I released yesterday. I have to start by saying thank you for all your lovely comments on the pictures I shared over social media and on the YouTube episode I uploaded yesterday. I appreciate each and every one of your comments.

It was back on August 15th where I first shared this picture as my contribution for Granny Square day, an annual festival that takes place on IG and FB. If you search for  #grannysquareday22 on IG you’ll enjoy a huge library of so many beautiful granny squares.granny squaresgranny square day

I made this granny square along with a few more, not long before the Granny Square day and I completely fell in love with the combination of Wool and Rafia. I really wanted it to become a new Crochetobjet pattern. But life happens and it found a nice home on the cabinet under the big window in my studio. Then it became part of the studio styling but every time I looked at it, I felt inspired to incorporate this square into a bag.Mondays club

It was only at the end of May that I got back to it. One of the knitters on the Monday’s club came with this crochet rafia bag she bought in Paris simply because she wanted me to see it and she knew why. I was very inspired by the crochet stitches in this bag and felt my hands getting itchy. I know this feeling. It’s the feeling of starting a new creative adventure.

Do you remember this rafia that I was gifted with last summer, by one of the ladies in the Monday club? She bought it in Italy. It’s the same Rafia I used for my Como bag. I only had 5 left of this natural color. It was exactly the quantity I used for the Como bag.Mili Bag crochet patternI started from making a few of these wool-y rafia squares and then when I joined them into a tube I could clearly see what I wanted it to look like. Mili Bag crochet patternI could clearly envision the shape and size and silhouette of the bag it will become, but at this point I had no idea what kind of handles I would make for it.rafia blocking

Crocheting my new WIP while writing down the pattern / taking pictures / recording video tutorials, made my life so much easier (note to myself). Even though I had to undo and rewrite or record a new take within the design process.pattern writing

So, within the making journey I created a few videos to go along with the pattern. These video tutorials are included in the pattern. I made them in order to support you in the making and make you feel like you learn with me in person, ensuring that you understand each step along the making. You can follow along at your own pace and refer back to the videos whenever needed.

Yarn & Hook

The yarns that I used for my Mili bag: Adrifil rafia (about 350 meters). For the flowers in the squares I used the Tibetan Cloud by mYak fibers – held double (you’ll need about 80 meters total). I worked the entire bag using a 4 mm crochet hook.knitting club

During the same time that I had my Mili bag crochet pattern WIP going on, a few crocheters here worked on their bags WIP’s as well. Most of them were designed on the go. One of the crocheters at the Friday club was very inspired by my Mili WIP and she also incorporated flower granny squares in her bag. She used my Granny Kit cotton yarn held double and you can see above, her cotton bag WIP looks fab. I encourage you to try and work with different yarns. The Mili bag is such a versatile crochet project and I can’t wait to see your Mili bag versions.

Mili bag crochet pattern video

Yesterday evening I uploaded a video wherein I shared details about the Mili Bag crochet pattern. In the video, I made an effort to include all the information regarding how the pattern works. However, if there is something important that I inadvertently omitted, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

Last weekend I took my Mili bag out and about for the first time and since then it’s in a daily use here.

If you’ve reached this point, I believe it’s reasonable to share one more small detail with you. As you may already know, my dear mother passed away (exactly) five years ago. I was fortunate to be raised by a truly remarkable and gifted mother who saw and loved me for who I am. She had a habit of giving me various nicknames, some of which were quite unusual, but the one she used most often was MILI. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and as always, I am immensely grateful for your visit, xxMo
