Granny Square Day is an international online celebration on Instagram, which takes place every year on the 15th of August. It’s a colorful and a vibrant event where the crochet community from all over the world shares the love for the traditional Granny Square, using the hashtag #grannysquareday2022. Will you join me to see how I got prepared for the event and how Granny Square Day 2022 looked like in the CrochetObjet studio? I hope yes…

The day before the actual Granny Square Day 2022, I spent hours at my desk, getting ready for the event. I started crocheting and arranging a few squares that I knew I wanted to share. Some of them which I had made earlier this year and some are freshly made for GSD 2022.
°°°
A few hours later I was ready to block my squares and when I got up from my chair and looked at my desk, it felt like coming back out of a rabbit hole. I had the most wonderland wonderful creative hours, playing with different materials, crocheting Granny squares. What a happy granny squares making, of all kinds and textures.I took 10 gazillion pictures of my desk just because I was SO in love with it and wanted to capture all these little tiny bits of textures and details.
°°°
This creative session started by gathering a few squares I had ready with a few yarns I wanted to include in my little granny square celebration. I crocheted lots of different Granny squares and was so inspired but eventually shared only a few of them.I was still pretty much inspired by the Wild Daisy sq. that I shared on Granny Square Day 2021. It kept me busy quite a lot at the first part of this year, and I still think of getting back to it. Just because I can easily see a beautiful crochet throw made out of it. It’s all made using mYak fibers wool and I still want to find the time and write down the pattern. So in one way or the other, this square is still an alive WIP in my creative mind.
°°°
This is how my creative granny square session started. Inspired by the Wild Daisy square, the one that I shared on the previous year, making the hook – yarn – fingers dance. The above square is a combination of left over yarns that I have in the studio. Sock wool from La Bien Aimee and Viola yarns plus 50% Yak 50% organic cotton from mYak. I just can’t tell you how soft and gorgeous it feels. Totally in love and yes I can see SO many options for crochet projects.
°°°
My contribution for Granny Square Day 2022 had to include some Raffia. After all this was the summer of Raffia here in the CrochetObjet studio. So I crocheted this one and as you can see, it’s also inspired by the Wild Daisy square. I used the same Raffia that is used in the Como Bag in a combination of mYak fibers wool. The bold petals here are made with Tibetan Cloud (2 strands held together). At the end I added a little chain stitches detail using the Kupa. Yarn I have left from my Shinjuku Scarf design process.
°°°
The next one I shared was a little square made earlier this year while still on the Shinjuku Scarf design process. It’s a very small size square that was all made using Kupa yarn. The original idea was to attach a lot of tiny squares like this and make them a scarf. There are so many ideas in my busy head left from my Shinjuku journey.
°°°
The last one I shared is a 3D square that I crocheted many moons ago when I was dreaming of making myself a Jamin Puech inspired bag. Eventually it found its way right into the Granny Square Day 2022 IG celebration. The 3D section is made out of 4 ply sock wool held together with a tiny bit of Silk Mohair which creates a dreamy crochet texture. Then I used a Quince & Co Linen yarn to turn the circle into a square. On the Last round the square is framed with Kupa yarn.
°°°
When I put them all on the blocking board I could hear my heart sing. I felt all the GOOD feelings run smoothly into my blood stream. This was such a creative morning and I was so grateful for those happy hours and for being part of such a creative community. My heart was full of joy while I was getting prepared to share my contribution for Granny Square Day 2022 and eventually I shared four squares. On both IG and FB but as you can see I had a few more ready for this creative festival.

The day after, on Granny Square Day 2022, our Monday table looked like the above. It was a crochet celebration in full swing and my heart was skipping a bit looking at those colorful Granny Kit cotton squares. Don’t you think they are just A M A Z I N G ?!
Omy GOOD GOOD GOODNESS. Those little colorful cotton creatures, I just couldn’t stand it. I was standing there admiring these colorful piles of grannies and took so many pictures of them. I hope it provides you with the same happy feelings. SO, That’s how Granny Square Day 2022 looked like in the CrochetObjet studio. Thank you for joining me here today and if you feel inspired and want to enjoy more of this crochet celebration, type #grannysquareday2022 on Instagram. You’ll get a beautiful gallery of all sorts of granny squares on your screen. xxMo

There is something of great delight about a simple Granny. I am really liking your solid color Grannies with the flower in the top row of your collage and very the bottom right photo of the small color center surrounded by the solid gray. Your fingers and mind dance beautifully together in creating these lovely squares! I hope you’re doing well, dear friend. XO

I love looking at your beautiful granny squares. The designs are wonderful but the colors!
Just gorgeous. Love the soft muted pinks and yellows and cream.
