Benji The Bear needed a Chunky brother, It was clear from the very first moment he was sitting on our living room couch. My original plan was to pick up a bulky yarn from my stash and crochet the original pattern as is. As it went forward I felt I needed to make more and more changes to the original pattern in order to create a chunky creature. Eventually, it came out as a new Bear crochet pattern. The result is a soft and bulky bear that is not just a dream to hug but also a good friend for all loved hearts no meter what age or gender. I called it Chunky Benji. If you already had the chance to crochet my original Benji The Bear Pattern, you would be familiar with some techniques that are taught on the new pattern. To celebrate this new crochet pattern I offer a 25% off all Benji’s items in my Etsy shop – more details on this sale at the end of this post.
Chunky Benji pattern in now available in my Etsy shop and was added to my Ravelry page. It is a quick project which makes a great gift. I enjoyed every moment of this quick chunky project. I really hope you’ll like making it as much as I did. You will probably see our Monday club WIP’s shared on social media soon. We will start making it on my classes, as soon as some bulky wool arrives. So, before you jump into the making, here is some information you need to know.
ABOUT THE PATTERN
This crochet bear pattern is written step by step to make it easier for you to follow. It is made by Single Crochet stitch only. Works spiral from bottom up. Legs and hands are added after the body is completed. It’s a very quick project. If you are a beginner, look for “how to single crochet” on Youtube to get some help, if needed. I also added a link in the pattern that will help you make an invisible join.

NOTIONS & MORE MATERIALS YOU”LL NEED
- A small piece of black or brown yarn for the first part of the nose.
- 8 – 10 mm safety eyes (use a black yarn to embroider when made for a baby)
- Soft stuffing material (cotton or acrylic)
- Stitch markers, row counter, tapestry needle and crafty scissors.
Like Benji The Bear, Chunky Benji is made to sit. It also made to be soft and to give warm hugs so don’t fill up his body parts too much with stuffing material. Keep it soft and half empty.
